As e-commerce evolves, UK sellers are increasingly looking for platforms that offer visibility, control, and high-intent customers. For brands in the home and garden space, B&Q Marketplace presents a strategic opportunity to diversify beyond Amazon and eBay, while aligning with one of the UK’s most recognised and trusted retail names.
B&Q has long been a household name in home improvement. With over 300 stores across the UK and Ireland and a strong online presence through DIY.com, it’s now extending that value to third-party sellers via its marketplace.
If you sell in categories such as home furnishings, garden, lighting, tools, or storage, now is the time to consider B&Q Marketplace — and with Base, the integration and management process is simple, fast, and scalable.
We hosted Tireni Ledeiga, Business Development Manager at B&Q Marketplace, as part of our recent Base Spotlight webinar. Here’s what we learned about why this channel is one to watch.
A Trusted Brand Expanding Its Digital Reach
B&Q Marketplace launched in March 2022 as part of the retailer’s broader digital transformation.
The marketplace helps us become a one-stop shop by giving customers more choice, more range, and more flexibility in terms of delivery.
– Tireni Ladega, Senior Business Development Manager, B&Q
As part of the Kingfisher Group — which also includes Screwfix, Castorama, and Brico Depot — B&Q brings strong brand equity and reach. Now, with the marketplace, sellers can tap into that audience directly.
“Our customers already trust us and shop with us regularly,” Tireni explained. “Sellers who join the marketplace can take advantage of that brand trust from day one.”
Why Sellers Should Pay Attention to B&Q Marketplace
1. Visibility Backed by Trust
The B&Q customer base is well-established and loyal. Products listed on the marketplace live directly on DIY.com, meaning sellers benefit from that traffic and trust.
“When a customer shops on the marketplace, they still see it as a B&Q experience,” said Tireni. “That means it’s critical that sellers meet our service levels, but it also means your products are positioned within a trusted environment.”
This makes B&Q Marketplace particularly appealing for sellers in categories where trust and reliability drive conversion.
2. A Focus on Quality and the Right Fit
B&Q isn’t aiming to be just another marketplace with endless selection. Instead, the focus is on working with curated, trusted partners.
We do a few checks before onboarding to make sure the product range, quality, and service levels align with what our customers expect, but if you’re not sure whether your range is a fit, I’d still encourage you to apply and have a conversation with us.
said Tireni.
Categories of particular interest right now include:
- Home furnishings
- Garden
- Tools
- Lighting
- Storage
But Tireni emphasised B&Q’s openness to expanding beyond those areas. “We’re open to exploring new product categories that complement our core range and where we see customer demand.”
3. Seller-Friendly Model with Strong Support
B&Q Marketplace operates on a commission-only model. There are no monthly fees, and commission rates typically range from 12 to 15 percent, depending on the category.
“It’s purely commission-based,” said Tireni. “You only pay when you make a sale.”
The onboarding process is straightforward, typically taking 2 to 4 weeks, depending on how prepared the seller is with product data and systems. Integration options include API, flat file, or working through an integrator like BaseLinker.
We have dedicated teams across onboarding, account management, and operations. There’s a lot of support available throughout the process.
said Tireni
Sellers also retain control over pricing, listings, and fulfilment, while still operating within a framework that ensures consistent customer service.
“You own the customer from a fulfilment and service perspective,” said Tireni. “But from the shopper’s point of view, they’re buying from B&Q — so the experience needs to reflect that.”
