The rise of returns, particularly those that are bracketed and fake is a wake up call to eCommerce sellers who are operating in the fashion industry. Even with online orders having a higher return rate than brick-and-mortar spaces, clothing is the worst hit sector, with return rates averaging 25-40%. According to Coresight Research, ecommerce return rates for apparel rose to 24.4% in 2023. This translates to $38Bn in returns, of which 66.67% of the costs go towards processing alone.

Bracketing is the practice of customers buying and trying different sizes, colors and fit only to return the ones that don’t suit or fit them.
How does it affect you?
Fraudulent returns impact sellers from both a sustainability and profitability standpoint. Returns shipping contributes to ~3Mn emissions globally, and 25% of returns end up being binned. So the flexibility comes at a high price- which you, the retailer, will end up paying for.
Tagloops are a unique way to beat this problem without angering customers who genuinely bring erroneous products to your attention. Let’s look at what tagloops are and where they’re useful.
What are Tagloops?
A Tagloop is a plastic locker that can be stitched into the material. It is looped around luggage or clothing such that you cannot reuse it once it’s broken or cut up. This adds integrity to your packing. Tagloops ensure that
- The user does not substitute a high-end product with a cheap knock off when returning it back to the seller.
- Genuine products aren’t tampered with and duplicated.
- Rent and return incidents are kept to a minimum.
- Customer-initiated returns that fail QC checks aren’t picked by the courier partner.
Previously, Myntra introduced this concept to reduce fake and bracketed returns. Now, Shopify and Amazon sellers are attaching tagloops to heighten the returns quality-compliance verification process.
How to Set Tagloop on Base
The Base system facilitates the creation of several attributes now enhanced for Tagloop creation. This allows users to manage and track orders that have been completed that automatically qualify for the creation of return requests. The user has to
- Navigate to the Orders list
2. Head to the Myntra tab-> Customer Returns-> Pending Labels.
3. Go to the Actions tab and Select the Pack option
4. A box pops up next, which contains a chat box icon. Click on it to enter the 8-character tag ID.
For DTC brands who are using the self-ship model, this token ID is given to the Myntra support through an API running on Base. The team scans the ID and approves returns collection if there is a match based on the configuration per seller. This makes returns processing easier, faster and unique to the seller.
