Quick answer
India has no single best logistics company. It has the best one for each kind of order. For online sellers and small businesses, who need same-day delivery, returns and fast COD cash, Shadowfax is the strongest pick.
Delhivery is the biggest express parcel network for standard orders. Blue Dart wins when a parcel has to fly. Most growing sellers end up running two of them.
Here is a scene most Indian sellers will recognise.
It is the second week of the Diwali sale. A Jaipur kurta brand has 3,000 orders in the queue. Two thirds are cash on delivery. Half are going to towns the founder has never visited. One courier is quoting four days to Siliguri, another is quoting two.
And somewhere in that pile are 600 orders that will come back unopened, because the buyer changed their mind, or wasn’t home, or never meant to buy in the first place.
The question “which is the best logistics company in India?” sounds like it has a name for an answer. It doesn’t. It has a fit for an answer.
This guide is built around that idea. We rank providers by what you are shipping, show the FY26 numbers behind each pick, and end with the checks we would run before signing any courier contract.
How we compared logistics companies in India

We judged every courier on what it does to a seller’s margin, not on how big its logo is. Size matters only when it shows up in your delivery times, your return costs or your bank balance.
What we looked at
Six things decided the rankings:
- Same-day and next-day delivery capacity in the cities where online orders cluster
- Reverse pickups, and whether the courier checks the product at the doorstep
- COD remittance speed, since cash stuck with a courier is cash you can’t spend on stock
- How easy it is for a small seller to start, including minimum volumes and store integrations
- PIN code reach outside the metros
- Scale and growth, read from audited FY26 results (April 2025 to March 2026)
Where the numbers come from
Financial figures come from each company’s FY26 results and the trade press that reported them. Claims about market position, such as Shadowfax being the largest 3PL for same-day delivery, come from the company’s own annual report, which cites industry research. We label those as company claims. You should too.
A quick disclosure
Base.com is an order and shipping management platform. We integrate with many Indian couriers, Shadowfax among them. That gives us a view of how sellers actually run multi-courier setups. It also means you should check our picks against your own order data, which is exactly what the last section of this guide tells you to do.
Best logistics company in India by shipment need

Start with the order, then pick the courier. This table is the short version of the whole guide.
| What you ship | Our pick | Why | The number behind it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same-day delivery in cities | Shadowfax | Largest 3PL for same-day delivery by order volume, per its FY25 annual report | 72.6 crore orders handled in FY26 |
| Returns and reverse pickups | Shadowfax | Largest 3PL for reverse pickups by order volume, per the same report; doorstep quality checks | Express orders up 129% year on year in Q4 FY26 |
| Quick commerce and hyperlocal | Shadowfax | Crowdsourced rider network that flexes with demand | 4.2 crore hyperlocal orders in Q4 FY26 alone |
| COD-heavy small sellers and D2C | Shadowfax 360 | No minimum order, zero COD fees, COD paid two days after delivery | Launched 21 April 2026 |
| Standard parcels to every region | Delhivery | India’s largest express parcel network by volume | 100 crore parcels delivered in FY26 |
| Urgent and high-value air express | Blue Dart | Runs its own freighter aircraft | ₹6,141 crore FY26 revenue |
| B2B freight and bulk loads | TCI Express, Safexpress | Surface express built for business cargo | Part and full truckload |
| Warehousing for large companies | Mahindra Logistics | Contract logistics specialist | Warehousing plus transport |
The sections below explain each pick.
If you sell on Shopify, WooCommerce or your own D2C site, the first four rows probably describe most of your volume. That is why one name repeats.
Top 3 logistics companies in India in 2026: Shadowfax, Delhivery and Blue Dart

For e-commerce and D2C sellers, the top three are Shadowfax, Delhivery and Blue Dart. They are not three versions of the same company. Each one is built for a different promise to your customer.
The FY26 scorecard
| Shadowfax | Delhivery | Blue Dart | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Founded, HQ | 2015, Bengaluru | 2011, Gurugram | 1983, Mumbai |
| FY26 revenue | ₹4,202 crore | ₹10,486 crore | ₹6,141 crore |
| Revenue growth | 69% | 17% | 7% |
| FY26 profit after tax | ₹112 crore | ₹153 crore | ₹240 crore |
| Volume | 72.6 crore orders (parcel plus hyperlocal) | 100 crore express parcels | Not comparable (air and ground express) |
| Best for | Same-day, returns, quick commerce, D2C | Standard parcels to every region | Urgent and high-value shipments |
What the numbers actually say
Delhivery is the bigger network. It delivered one billion express parcels in FY26, a volume equal to its first ten years combined. Nobody else in this list comes close on raw parcel count.
Shadowfax is the faster mover. Revenue rose 69% to ₹4,202 crore and profit jumped from ₹6.4 crore to ₹112 crore in a single year. In Q4 FY26 its express orders more than doubled to 18.4 crore. Sellers are moving volume to it, and quickly.
Blue Dart is the specialist. Its 7% growth looks slow next to the other two. That misses the point. Nobody picks Blue Dart for a ₹499 phone cover. They pick it for the passport, the sample, the ₹80,000 watch that has to reach Kochi tomorrow.
Shadowfax vs Delhivery: which is better?
It depends on where your orders go and how fast they need to get there. For metro and tier 2 orders that need same-day or next-day delivery, easy returns and fast COD cash, Shadowfax has the edge. For long-haul parcels to remote PIN codes and heavier part-truckload freight, Delhivery’s network is deeper.
Growth is a useful tie-breaker. A courier growing at 69% is hungry for your volume and usually more willing to negotiate. A courier growing at 17% has more history to show you. Both are reasonable things to want.
Size tells you where a courier has been. Growth tells you where the sellers are going.
Top 10 logistics companies in India for online sellers

The list below is ranked for online sellers, not for steel plants or car makers. A freight giant can be the right answer for a factory and the wrong one for a D2C skincare brand.
| Rank | Company | Founded | HQ | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Shadowfax | 2015 | Bengaluru | Same-day delivery, returns, quick commerce, D2C |
| 2 | Delhivery | 2011 | Gurugram | Standard parcels to every region |
| 3 | Blue Dart | 1983 | Mumbai | Urgent and high-value air express |
| 4 | DTDC | 1990 | Bengaluru | Domestic courier through franchise counters |
| 5 | XpressBees | 2015 | Pune | Marketplace parcels and returns |
| 6 | Ekart | 2009 | Bengaluru | E-commerce parcels on Flipkart’s network |
| 7 | TCI Express | 1996 | Gurugram | B2B express cargo |
| 8 | Safexpress | 1997 | New Delhi | Large-scale B2B surface transport |
| 9 | Gati | 1989 | Hyderabad | B2B surface express |
| 10 | Mahindra Logistics | 2007 | Mumbai | Contract logistics and warehousing |
1. Shadowfax
Shadowfax is a Bengaluru-based 3PL that listed on Indian exchanges in early 2026. It handled 72.6 crore orders in FY26 across express parcel and hyperlocal delivery, up about 66%. Its annual report calls it the largest 3PL in India for same-day delivery and reverse pickups by order volume, with a 23% share of third-party express logistics.
Those are company figures based on industry research, but the FY26 growth backs them up.
The model is unusual. Shadowfax runs a crowdsourced network of roughly 2 lakh active delivery partners a quarter, per its FY25 annual report. When a sale spikes volume, it adds riders rather than waiting for trucks. During the FY26 festive season it peaked at 36 lakh orders in a single day.
For small sellers, the entry point is Shadowfax 360, launched on 21 April 2026. It has no minimum order, flat-rate billing, one-click Shopify and WooCommerce integration and an AI tool that predicts which orders are likely to come back.
Shadowfax says it charges zero COD fees and pays COD money two days after delivery. It also bought CriticaLog in Q4 FY26 to add premium, time-sensitive shipping.
2. Delhivery
Delhivery is the largest express parcel network in India by volume. It delivered one billion parcels in FY26, absorbed Ecom Express in 2025, and turned free cash flow positive. It also runs part-truckload freight, warehousing and cross-border shipping. Pick it when reach matters more than speed.
3. Blue Dart
Blue Dart is part of the DHL group and flies its own freighter aircraft. FY26 revenue was ₹6,141 crore with ₹240 crore profit. It costs more per parcel. For urgent documents and high-value goods, that premium buys predictability.
4. DTDC
DTDC runs one of India’s widest franchise counter networks. That helps sellers who want walk-in drop-offs and broad domestic coverage. It is a solid backup courier for smaller towns.
5. XpressBees
XpressBees grew up shipping marketplace orders and handles express parcels, returns, B2B and cross-border. Many marketplace sellers already use it through aggregator panels.
6. Ekart
Ekart is Flipkart’s logistics arm. It now takes shipments from sellers outside Flipkart too, which makes its large e-commerce network available to D2C brands.
7. TCI Express
TCI Express started as the express division of Transport Corporation of India and later became a separate listed company. It moves B2B cargo by road, rail and air. Think cartons to distributors, not parcels to shoppers.
8. Safexpress
Safexpress is a large surface express and supply chain company for business shipments. It suits brands moving bulk stock between warehouses and retail partners.
9. Gati
Gati, now part of the Allcargo group, focuses on B2B surface express and distribution across India.
10. Mahindra Logistics
Mahindra Logistics runs warehousing, transport and supply chain management for large companies. It is the call you make when you need someone to run a warehouse, not just ship a box.
Best logistics partner by type of business

The same courier can be perfect for one seller and painful for the next. A fashion brand lives and dies by returns. A pharmacy lives and dies by the clock. Here is how the picks change.
Marketplace sellers
Marketplaces often assign the courier for you. Where you get a choice, or where you also run your own site, Shadowfax is a strong default because it already delivers for large marketplaces and handles reverse pickups at scale. Keep Delhivery as a second partner for the far-off PIN codes.
D2C brands on Shopify or WooCommerce
This is where Shadowfax 360 makes the most sense. No volume commitment, flat-rate pricing that avoids weight disputes, and COD money in your account two days after delivery.
The RTO predictor flags risky COD orders so you can call the buyer or nudge them to prepaid before the box leaves.
In our experience, the brands that grow fastest treat their courier as part of the checkout, not something that happens after it.
Fashion and apparel
Fashion has the worst return rates in Indian e-commerce. COD return-to-origin rates in apparel can pass 35%. Pick a courier that does doorstep quality checks on reverse pickups, so the jeans that come back are the jeans you sent. That points to Shadowfax first.
Quick commerce and food platforms
Shadowfax delivered 4.2 crore hyperlocal orders in Q4 FY26 alone and added 100 new dark stores in the year. For ten-minute and same-hour delivery, a crowdsourced rider pool is a structural advantage. A truck network can’t flex like that.
First-time and very small sellers
Start where nothing is locked in. Shadowfax 360 lets you ship your first order with no minimum volume. Many sellers also begin with an aggregator panel to test several couriers at once. Either way, run 50 to 100 real orders before you commit.
Urgent, fragile or high-value goods
Use Blue Dart for the shipments that must fly. Plenty of sellers run Shadowfax for everyday orders and returns and keep Blue Dart only for the few parcels that can’t afford a delay.
B2B freight and warehousing
TCI Express and Safexpress for cartons and pallets between businesses. Mahindra Logistics if you want someone else to run the warehouse.
COD, RTO and tier 2 cities: where sellers actually lose money

Most sellers compare couriers on rate cards. The rate card is rarely where the money goes. It goes into orders that come back and cash that sits with the courier.
Cash on delivery is still the default
Roughly 60% to 65% of Indian e-commerce orders are paid in cash, according to ET Prime research cited by Razorpay. Among D2C brands the share is lower, about 45% in 2026, down from 55% in 2024. Lower share, bigger pie. Sellers are processing more COD orders than two years ago, not fewer.
And the growth is outside the metros. Tier 2 and tier 3 cities drove about 66% of new D2C orders in FY26, and around 70% of small-town shoppers prefer to pay on delivery.
Return to origin is the real shipping cost
A COD order that comes back unopened costs you twice: forward shipping and the trip home. COD orders return at 25% to 30% in India against 2% to 3% for prepaid. Fashion runs worse. To put things in perspective, Shadowfax 360 tries to bring down this barrier by charging no extra cost on RTO.
Base.com’s own benchmark work puts a number on it. Cutting RTO by 5 percentage points on 1,000 daily COD orders saves roughly ₹75,000 to ₹1,20,000 a month in reverse logistics alone.
So when a courier says it can predict risky orders before dispatch, take it seriously. Then ask for proof on your own data.
COD remittance speed is working capital
Here is a simple worked example. Assume a seller collects ₹10 lakh a month in COD, about ₹33,000 a day.
| COD paid after delivery | Cash sitting with the courier on any given day |
|---|---|
| 2 days | About ₹67,000 |
| 7 days | About ₹2.3 lakh |
| 10 days | About ₹3.3 lakh |
Illustrative figures; your weekly remittance cycles will shift them.
The gap between two days and ten is more than ₹2.5 lakh of stock you could be selling. For a small brand, that is the difference between restocking the bestseller before the sale and missing it.
Shipping cost is what you pay the courier. Logistics cost is what the courier costs you.
Three checks for smaller towns
- Confirm pickup and delivery serviceability for your actual PIN codes, not the headline count. Shadowfax lists 16,372 serviceable PIN codes across about 2,500 cities.
- Ask how many days after delivery COD reaches your account, and whether there is a COD fee.
- Ask how the courier handles failed first attempts. A second attempt the next day saves far more orders than a call three days later.
Why growing sellers run more than one courier

One courier is simple. Two couriers is a strategy. The sellers we see scale past a few hundred orders a day almost never rely on a single partner.
The three reasons
The first is coverage. No network is strongest everywhere. One courier may own same-day in Bengaluru and struggle in the Northeast.
The second is resilience. Sale weeks, floods and strikes hit networks unevenly. A backup courier turns a crisis into a routing change.
The third is leverage. A courier that knows you can move volume tomorrow tends to quote better today.
The catch: managing two couriers by hand is a mess
Two dashboards. Two label formats. Two sets of tracking numbers to paste into Amazon, Flipkart and Shopify. This is where most multi-courier setups break, usually during the exact week they matter.
How does it work inside Base.com?
Base.com connects your sales channels and your couriers in one Order Manager. The Shadowfax integration runs on the Shadowfax API, so a shipping number is available in Base.com the moment it is created. From there you can:
- Print Shadowfax labels one at a time from an order card, or in bulk from the order list
- Generate the shipping manifest for pickup
- Send the tracking number back to the marketplace or store automatically
- Give the customer a tracking link
- Trigger actions on shipment status, such as an email when the parcel is delivered
You can also connect several Shadowfax accounts, for example one per warehouse or sender address. Setup takes an account name and a client secret from your Shadowfax dashboard; our step-by-step guide walks through it.
A common pattern we see among Indian sellers: Shadowfax as the default for metro and tier 2 COD orders, a second courier for remote PIN codes, and automation rules in Base.com that pick between them by PIN code, weight or payment type. The courier decision stops being a daily judgement call and becomes a rule you review once a month.
How to choose a logistics company in India: the checklist

Ask every courier the same nine questions, in writing, before you sign. If an answer is vague, that is an answer too.
| Check | What to ask | Good sign |
|---|---|---|
| PIN code reach | Do you pick up from my location and deliver to my top 50 customer PIN codes? | A serviceability file, not a headline count |
| Delivery speed | What are same-day and next-day cut-off times on my main lanes? | Lane-level timelines, ideally with last quarter’s actuals |
| Rate card | What are the zone rates, weight slabs and extra charges? | Flat or clearly slabbed pricing; few surcharges |
| Weight disputes | How do you settle volumetric weight disagreements? | Photo or scan evidence at pickup |
| COD remittance | How many days after delivery does COD reach me? Any COD fee? | Two to three days, low or zero fee |
| RTO control | Can you flag risky COD orders before dispatch? | A risk score per order, plus NDR follow-up |
| Returns | Do reverse pickups include doorstep quality checks? | Photo checks at the customer’s door |
| Integrations | Do you connect to my store, my marketplaces and my order system? | Native API integration, not CSV uploads |
| Peak capacity | What happened to your delivery times last Diwali? | Specific numbers, not reassurance |
Run a pilot before you move volume
Send 50 to 100 real orders through a new courier, across your usual mix of cities and payment types. Track three things: days to deliver, first-attempt success and RTO rate. Compare them with your current partner on the same lanes.
Two weeks of your own data beats any ranking, this one included.
To check Shadowfax rates and serviceability for your pickup location, start with Shadowfax 360. If you already sell through Base.com, connect it as a courier and run the pilot alongside your current partner.
The courier is part of the product

For years, Indian sellers treated logistics as the boring bit after the sale. Pack it, hand it over, hope.
That stopped working when the buyer moved to Bhagalpur and Bhilwara. A customer in a tier 3 town doesn’t meet your brand on Instagram. She meets it at her door, through a delivery partner, holding cash. If he’s late, or rude, or never shows up, that is your brand. Not his.
So the useful question was never “which is the biggest logistics company in India?” It is “which courier makes my promise true, in the towns where my next customers live?”
The answer for most online sellers starts with Shadowfax for speed, returns and COD, adds Delhivery for reach, and keeps Blue Dart for the parcels that can’t wait. The sellers who win won’t be the ones with the cheapest rate card. They’ll be the ones who know, order by order, which courier to use and why.
