Question 1

What is the most common type of courier failure during the summer sale in India?

Accepted Answer

The most common failure is not a complete service shutdown; it is network saturation that manifests as pickup delays, sorting hub chokepoints, and NDR spikes. Couriers continue accepting shipments while their capacity to process and deliver them at normal SLA degrades. Knowing how to handle courier failure during the summer sale in India starts with recognising these early signals: AWB scan gaps, rising NDR rates, and static tracking for 12+ hours. These are the warnings that let you switch carriers before the damage compounds.

Question 2

How many courier partners should an Indian D2C brand have active during a summer sale?

Accepted Answer

A minimum of two and ideally three. Data from peak 2024 shows brands with two or more last-mile partners had 27% fewer delivery failures during peak periods. The structure should be a primary carrier for metro and Tier 1 volumes, a secondary carrier for Tier 2 and Tier 3 coverage and COD orders, and a surge fallback for overflow. All three should be pre-configured in your OMS with fallback routing rules so the switch is automatic, not manual.

Question 3

How does Base.com help manage courier failure during a summer sale?

Accepted Answer

Base.com's OMS integrates with 40+ Indian courier partners and aggregators from a single interface. When a primary carrier degrades, fallback routing rules automatically assign new AWBs to the secondary carrier without manual intervention. The NDR management module triggers customer communication within minutes of a failed delivery attempt. The logistics dashboard flags pickup lag, tracking scan gaps, and NDR rate spikes in real time, giving operations teams the visibility to act within hours, not days. This is how to handle courier failure during the summer sale in India at an operational scale.

Question 4

What should a brand communicate to customers when a courier fails mid-delivery?

Accepted Answer

Proactive communication before the buyer notices the delay is the single most effective customer retention action during a logistics failure. Send a WhatsApp message as soon as the affected order batch is identified: confirm the delay, provide a revised EDD, and offer a direct contact for escalation. Brands that send this message before buyers raise tickets reduce inbound support volume by 30-40% and see significantly better post-event review sentiment. Knowing how to handle courier failure during the summer sale in India from a customer communication standpoint means removing the buyer's uncertainty before it becomes frustration.

Question 5

When should a brand start preparing for courier failure risk ahead of a summer sale?

Accepted Answer

Six to eight weeks before the sale opens. This timeline allows for carrier performance analysis, fallback routing configuration, pickup slot pre-booking, EDD buffer adjustment, and NDR workflow setup, all of which need to be in place and tested before order volumes spike. Brands that start two weeks out do not have enough time to fix configurations that fail in testing. Brands that start the week before are improvising. The preparation is not complex, but it requires lead time that most Indian D2C operations underestimate.
