Question 1

Can I use multiple 3PL providers at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many growing Indian D2C brands work with multiple 3PL partners to improve regional coverage, reduce shipping costs, or avoid relying on a single provider. An OMS like Base.com can route orders to the appropriate fulfillment partner based on inventory availability, location, or predefined business rules while maintaining a single view of inventory and orders.

Question 2

Will switching to a 3PL improve delivery speed?

Accepted Answer

It can, but only if the 3PL has fulfillment centers closer to your customers. A distributed fulfillment network reduces shipping zones and transit time, allowing brands to offer faster deliveries in Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 cities. Delivery performance depends on warehouse locations, carrier partnerships, and inventory placement rather than outsourcing alone.

Question 3

What should I look for before signing a 3PL contract?

Accepted Answer

Beyond pricing, evaluate warehouse locations, technology integrations, inventory accuracy, service-level agreements (SLAs), return processing timelines, scalability during peak seasons, reporting capabilities, and customer support. A lower fulfillment fee is not valuable if poor execution results in delayed shipments or increased customer complaints.

Question 4

Can fulfillment strategy affect customer retention?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Fast, accurate deliveries, well-managed returns, and consistent order tracking directly influence customer satisfaction and repeat purchase rates. Fulfillment is often one of the last brand interactions before a customer decides whether to buy again, making operational reliability an important contributor to long-term retention.

Question 5

How often should a growing D2C brand review its fulfillment strategy?

Accepted Answer

Brands should review their fulfillment model at least every six to twelve months, or whenever they experience major changes such as rapid order growth, expansion into new marketplaces, additional warehouses, international selling, or significant increases in return volumes. Regular reviews ensure the fulfillment setup continues to support growth efficiently instead of becoming an operational bottleneck.
