Question 1

How far in advance should I send stock to Amazon FBA and Flipkart Fulfilment for a festive sale?

Accepted Answer

Book inbound appointments around 35 days out and dispatch your first consignment around 28 days out, so there is time to confirm check-in and send a top-up if needed. Fulfilment centres run at capacity during Indian festive inbound, so a consignment that arrives on schedule can still be checked in late. Build slack into the calendar rather than into the forecast.

Question 2

Should I split stock evenly between Amazon and Flipkart?

Accepted Answer

No. Split according to each platform's own trailing sales data and the specific placements you have secured on each. An even split ignores that your Amazon and Flipkart product mixes usually differ, and it guarantees the allocation is wrong for at least one of them.

Question 3

How much stock should I keep in my own warehouse versus platform fulfilment?

Accepted Answer

A common approach is committing 60-70% of forecast to platform fulfilment and holding 30-40% in your own warehouse as flexible buffer, adjusted per SKU rather than across the catalogue. Your own warehouse is the only pool you can redirect to either marketplace mid-sale, which is what makes it worth the lower fulfilment convenience.

Question 4

What is the best tool to plan inventory for Amazon and Flipkart sales?

Accepted Answer

It depends on whether you run your own warehouse. Sellers with their own fulfilment need a system with genuine warehouse execution and multi-warehouse separation, such as Base.com, Unicommerce or Vinculum. Fully platform-fulfilled sellers with a small catalogue can start with Amazon's free Restock Inventory tool and Flipkart Seller Hub before investing in a paid platform.

Question 5

Does over-shipping to Amazon FBA hurt my account?

Accepted Answer

It can. Amazon's Inventory Performance Index accounts for excess and aged inventory and long-term storage fees alongside your ability to keep popular products in stock, so inventory that does not clear counts against you. Check your current IPI and storage-fee policy in Seller Central before deciding your commitment ratio, since Amazon revises these regularly.
